HCI strives to be involved in our communities through different organizations but especially through different youth programs and our local schools. We were asked to sponsor t-shirts for the McPherson County 4-H Fair Round Robin Showmanship. Each 4-Her that was showing in this event received a nice red t-shirt that sported the HCI logo on the back. I was curious about this event so I decided to make the trip over to the fairgrounds to see what it was all about. When I pulled into the fairgrounds at 5:00 PM, my car said it was 101 degrees so it was plenty HOT! Each 4-Her not only had to show the animal that they qualified with but they also had to show an animal that they may never have shown before or had little experience handling. There were cattle, swine, horses, sheep and goats and all areas were judged, tallied and recognized as grand champion and reserve grand champion. In the day and age of online gaming, internet and other technology it was great to see these young kids outside “unconnected”, working with their animals and really enjoying the camaraderie and the fun of the fair! Great job to these young 4-Hers – thanks for bringing me out to see what the Round Robin Showmanship was all about! I encourage everyone to stop in at your local county fair and see how awesome the youth of our communities are!
